2004 Sure Scrip User Meeting was a Success
Over 30 people, representing 17 pharmacies using the Sure Scrip pharmacy management software, attended Lake Country Systems' annual User Group Meeting in Green Bay on April 25th .
LCS President and CEO, Doug Burghardt unveiled LCS' latest technology offerings.
- The Electronic Signature Capture Pad was demonstrated. It interfaces with the Sure Scrip pharmacy program to store patient signatures for both insurance logs and HIPAA "Notice of Privacy Practices" (NOPP) acknowledgements. There's more information available in the Products and Services section.
- The new Barcode Verification Software. The new module consists a barcode scanner to scan the barcodes on the patient's vial or RX receipt. Using the newly installed MediSpan drug imprint database, Sure Scrip displays the pill's color, shape, and front/back imprint information. After scanning the barcode of the NDC located on manufacturer's stock bottle from which the vial was filled, the system can immediately alert you to a mismatch. More information is available in the Products and Services section.
Veigh Summers, Sales Manager from NDC Health Corporation, presented their on-line claim adjudication switching services , currently in use by approximately 90% of LCS pharmacies. Veigh also presented NDC's other services which include:

- Their newest endeavor: National Community Pharmacy Network (NCPN.) The goal of NCPN is to establish partnerships with as many of the 25,000 community pharmacies throughout the U.S. in an effort to rally their forces and gain strength in numbers.
- NDC's ProviderPay program which offers next day funding of third party receivables and line item reconciliation;
- PharmacyAide, another suggested NDC product, described as a store level personal consulting service designed to seek out and rectify lost profit opportunities;
- NDC's manufacturer's messaging services for members of NCPN which will assist in drug recall notifications, companion product reminders and preferred product formulary support. (NCPN will also assist its members with certain manufacturer rebate programs through NDC's P3 messaging capabilities.)
LCS encourages anyone interested in these programs to contact Veigh Summers directly at his NDC office at 317-816-9186 or e-mail VeighSummers@cs.com.
John Robinson from Cortland Data, based in Minneapolis, MN, presented a new data service called RXCherryPick.com. (Attendees last year may recall that John addressing that meeting as well.) and was back to introduce he founded. Cortland Data's service assists pharmacies in purchasing pharmaceuticals at the best price using a database of cost information on specific items from various wholesalers that he "cherry picks" for the best price. John announced an exclusive offer for any and all LCS users for a FREE analysis of the cost savings his service could provide.
John Zindorf, Sales Representative from Harvard Drug - a generic drug wholesaler, sponsored the mid-meeting pizza break. In addition, free samples of generic OTC products were distributed to all guests in care of Harvard Drug.
Laurie Burghardt, LCS Support/Sales Manager, discussed some of the new software features that are presently available and a few that are on the horizon:
- LCS' new Track Fax and RX Transmit suspense screens were detailed;
- The new terminally ill flag located in the patient file;
- The patient profile request format (#5), designed to handout to patients in order to give to their doctors a document of not only the meds they are taking but also the dosage directions.
- The ease of setting up and maintaining the "not often used" inventory control features that are currently available within the Sure Scrip program. Instigating a perpetual inventory can be easily accomplished with Sure Scrip and, contrary to popular belief, does not have to be done with all your drug inventory.
(These are all covered further in the Support section.)
Laurie and Doug opened the floor to questions from the audience. Feedback from the attendees has been very positive and; many people found answers discussing situations with fellow users - one of the best reasons to attend the meetings. We thank everyone for taking the time to come.
