Bar-Code Scanning Add-On Station
With the ever-increasing volume of prescriptions challenging pharmacies, accuracy, now more than ever, must be on the forefront of all pharmacist's minds.
Sure Scrip's new module for verification integrates a barcode scanner to scan the RX barcode on the patient's vial or RX receipt, as well as the barcode of the NDC located on manufacturer's stock bottle from which the vial was filled. Using the MediSpan drug imprint database, Sure Scrip displays the pill's color, shape, and front/back imprint information, telling the R. Ph. doing the verification what should be in the vial, and matches the scanned barcodes. If the drugs match, Sure Scrip displays informs you and prompt for your initials. The initials, along with the date/time of the verification, are stored with the RX for any future audit. If the two scans are not an identical match, Sure Scrip displays an alert message. If the drug is a chemical equivalent (for example, if the previous fill was for Rugby but now you are stocking Qualitest) Sure Scrip will allow you to continue as is or change the drug dispensed in the RX record. The verified RX will then be flagged on the patient profile indicating that the filling, billing, and verification stages are completed.

Signature Capture Add-On Module
Our new electronic signature capture pad integrates with the Sure Scrip Pharmacy Management system to store patient signatures for HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices (NOPP) acknowledgements as well as insurance logs. Operation is simple. When a patient picks up a prescription, the signature pad displays the phrase, "I have received the following prescriptions" and the RX number(s). The patient signs in the box provided and presses OK with the stylus. If the patient has not yet signed the NOPP, Sure Scrip then displays "I have received or read a copy of the pharmacy's Notice of Privacy Practices", prompting the patient to sign and confirm. Sure Scrip stores the Rx numbers and NOPP statement, along with the signature and date, in the patient data record.
The cost of the signature capture station is $1395 plus a $10/month support fee. It includes a 4 x 5 backlit signature pad, handheld barcode scanner, LCS signature capture software including installation, and on-site training. Additional stations are $995 each.
